Diagnostic Procedure
- CHECK HOSES
- Turn ignition switch "OFF".
- Check hose for clogging or improper connection.
OK or NG
- OK: GO TO 2.
- NG: Repair or reconnect the hose.
- CHECK SWIRL CONTROL VALVE CONTROL VACUUM CHECK SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT
- Disconnect swirl control valve control vacuum check switch harness connector.
- Check harness continuity between terminal 2 and ground. Refer to WIRING DIAGRAM
.
Continuity should exist.
- Also check harness for short to power.
OK or NG
- OK: GO TO 4 .
- NG: GO TO 3.
- DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART
Check the following.
- Harness connectors E1, M1
- Harness connectors M32, F23
- Harness connectors F22, M33 (A/T models)
- Joint connector F204
- Harness for open or short between swirl control valve control vacuum check switch and ECM
- Harness for open or short between swirl control valve control vacuum check switch and TCM
- Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
- CHECK SWIRL CONTROL VALVE CONTROL VACUUM CHECK SWITCH INPUT SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT
- connect ECM harness connector.
- Check harness continuity between ECM terminal 59 and swirl control valve control vacuum check switch terminal 1.
Refer to WIRING DIAGRAM .
Continuity should exist.
- Also check harness for short to ground and short to power.
OK or NG
- OK: GO TO 6 .
- NG: GO TO 5.
- DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART
Check the following.
- Harness connectors E1, M1
- Harness connectors M94, F27
- Harness for open or short between swirl control valve control vacuum check switch and ECM
- Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness connectors.
- CHECK SWIRL CONTROL VALVE CONTROL VACUUM CHECK SWITCH
- ignition switch "OFF".
- Disconnect vacuum hose connected to swirl control valve control vacuum check switch.
- Attach vacuum pump to swirl control valve control vacuum check switch.
- Turn ignition switch "ON".
- Check voltage between ECM terminal 59 and ground under the following conditions.
OK or NG
- OK: GO TO 7.
- NG: Replace swirl control valve control vacuum check switch.
- CHECK SWIRL CONTROL VALVE CONTROL SOLENOID VALVE
With CONSULT-II
- Reconnect the disconnected harness connectors.
- Start engine and let it idle.
- Remove vacuum hose connected to swirl control valve actuator.
- Select "SWIRL CONT SOL VALVE" in "ACTIVE TEST" mode with CONSULT-II.
- Touch "ON" and "OFF" on CONSULT-II screen.
- Check vacuum existence and operation delay time under the following conditions.

Operation takes less than 1 second.
Without CONSULT-II
- Reconnect ECM harness connector.
- Remove vacuum hose connected to swirl control valve actuator.
- Start engine and let it idle.
- Apply 12V of direct current between swirl control valve control solenoid valve terminals and 2.
- Check vacuum existence and operation delay time under the following conditions.

Operation takes less than 1 second.
OK or NG
- OK: GO TO 8.
- NG: Replace intake manifold collector assembly.
- CHECK INTERMITTENT INCIDENT
Perform "TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS FOR INTERMITTENT INCIDENT " .
