On-Vehicle Inspection

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Lexus ES 300 and 2002 Lexus ES 300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Anti-Theft System -  When the system is set to the anti-theft mode and any of the following conditions are met, the system sounds the horns and flashes the headlights and the taillights for approximately 1 minute. At the same time the system locks all doors. If all doors are not locked at once, the system repeats door locking operation every 0.38 seconds during the 1 minute alarming time. There are 2 modes in this system; one is active mode and one is passive mode. All initial settings are performed in the active mode. It can be switched to the passive mode by using a specified operation. See step  4.
    • Any of the doors (including the engine hood and luggage compartment door) is unlocked or opened without the key but only in the active arming mode.
    • The battery terminal is disconnected and reconnected.
    • The system receives a panic signal from remote keyless entry when the ignition key is not inserted in the key cylinder.

There are 4 conditions in this system which are disarming conditions. To identify the 4 anti-theft conditions, see Fig 1.

  2. Active Arming Mode -  For active arming mode conditions, refer to flowchart. See Fig 2. For indicator light output, see INDICATOR LIGHT OUTPUT (ACTIVE ARMING MODE)  table.

Even in the disarming condition, the indicator light flashes due to a signal output from the immobilizer system. The indicator always flashes by receiving a signal from the immobilizer system at any time in the arming condition.

    Flashing Frequency:

    • 0.2 seconds (ON)
    • 1.8 seconds (OFF)

  3. Passive Arming Mode -  This mode can be switched by the specific operation. All initially set modes (when shipped from factory) are active mode. (No passive mode). For passive arming mode conditions, refer to flowchart. See Fig 3 and Fig 4 . For indicator light output, see INDICATOR LIGHT OUTPUT (PASSIVE ARMING MODE)  table.

    Flashing Frequency:

    • 0.2 seconds (ON)
    • 1.8 seconds (OFF)

For transfer to active mode table, see Fig 5.

  4. Changing Method Of Passive Mode (ON or OFF) -  Using hand-held tester, the mode can be changed to the passive mode.
