Removal and Installation: Installation
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Nissan Murano and 2003 Nissan Murano. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Install timing chain and related parts. Refer to TIMING CHAIN .
- Hammer dowel pins (right and left) into front timing chain case up to a point close to taper in order to shorten protrusion length.
- Install front oil seal on front timing chain case. Apply new engine oil to the oil seal edges.
- Install it so that each seal lip is oriented as shown in figure.
- Using suitable drift, press-fit oil seal until it becomes flush with front timing chain case end face.
- Make sure garter spring is in position and seal lip is not inverted.
- Install water pump cover and chain tensioner cover to front timing chain case.
- Apply a continuous bead of liquid gasket to front timing chain case as shown in the figure.
Use Genuine RTV Silicone Sealant or equivalent. Refer to RECOMMENDED CHEMICAL PRODUCTS AND SEALANTS .
- Apply a continuous bead of liquid gasket to front timing chain case as shown in the figure.
- Install front timing chain case as follows:
- Apply liquid gasket to front timing chain case back side as shown in the figure.
Use Genuine RTV Silicone Sealant or equivalent. Refer to RECOMMENDED CHEMICAL PRODUCTS AND SEALANTS .
- Install oil pan gasket.
- Apply liquid gasket to oil pan gasket as shown in the figure. Use Genuine RTV Silicone Sealant or equivalent. Refer to RECOMMENDED CHEMICAL PRODUCTS AND SEALANTS .
- Align notch of front timing chain case with protrusion of oil pan gasket.
- Apply liquid gasket to top surface of upper oil pan as shown in figure.
Use Genuine RTV Silicone Sealant or equivalent. Refer to RECOMMENDED CHEMICAL PRODUCTS AND SEALANTS .
- Install new O-rings on rear timing chain case.
- Assemble front timing chain case as follows:
- Fit lower end of front timing chain case tightly onto top face of upper oil pan. From the fitting point, make entire front timing chain case contact rear timing chain case completely.CAUTION: Be careful that oil pan gasket is in place.
- Since front timing chain case is offset for difference of bolt holes, tight bolts temporarily with holding front timing chain case from front and top as shown in the figure.
- Same as the step ii, insert dowel pin with holding front timing chain case from front and top completely.
- Fit lower end of front timing chain case tightly onto top face of upper oil pan. From the fitting point, make entire front timing chain case contact rear timing chain case completely.
- Tighten bolts to the specified torque in order shown in the figure.
- There are two types of mounting bolts. Refer to the following for locating bolts.
8 mm (0.31 in) dia. bolts: 1,2
: 25.5 - 31.3 N.m (2.6 - 3.2 kg-m, 19-23 ft-lb)
6 mm (0.24 in) dia. bolts: Except the above
: 11.7 -13.7 N.m (1.2 -1.4 kg-m, 9 -10 ft-lb)
- There are two types of mounting bolts. Refer to the following for locating bolts.
- After all bolts tightening, retighten them to specified torque in numerical order shown in figure.
- Apply liquid gasket to front timing chain case back side as shown in the figure.
- Install RH engine mounting bracket and RH mounting insulator. Refer to ENGINE ASSEMBLY .
- Remove lower oil pan.
- Install two mounting bolts in front of upper oil pan in numerical order shown in figure.
: 15.7 - 18.6 N.m (1.6 -1.9 kg-m, 12 -14 ft-lb)
- Install lower oil pan. Refer to OIL PAN AND OIL STRAINER .
- Install RH and LH intake valve timing control covers as follows:
- Install seal rings in shaft grooves.
- Apply liquid gasket to intake valve timing control covers.
Use Genuine RTV Silicone Sealant or equivalent. Refer to RECOMMENDED CHEMICAL PRODUCTS AND SEALANTS .
- Install collared O-ring in front timing chain case oil hole (LH and RH sides).
- Being careful not to move seal ring from the installation groove, align dowel pins on front timing chain case with the holes to install intake valve timing control covers.
- Tighten bolts in the numerical order as shown in the figure.
- Install crankshaft pulley as follows:
- Install crankshaft pulley, taking care not to damage front oil seal.
- When press-fitting crankshaft pulley with plastic hammer, tap on its center portion (not circumference).
- Fix crankshaft using suitable tool.
- Tighten crankshaft pulley bolt.
: 39.2 - 49.0 N.m (4.0 - 5.0 kg-m, 29 - 36 ft-lb)
- Put a paint mark on crankshaft pulley aligning with angle mark on crankshaft pulley bolt. Then, further retighten bolt by 60 to 65 degrees [Target: 60 degrees (equivalent to one graduation)].
- Install crankshaft pulley, taking care not to damage front oil seal.
- Rotate crankshaft pulley in normal direction (clockwise when viewed from engine front) to confirm it turns smoothly.
- Install in the reverse order of removal after this step.NOTE: If hydraulic pressure inside chain tensioner drops after removal/installation, slack in the guide may generate a pounding noise during and just after engine start. However, this is normal. Noise will stop after hydraulic pressure rises.
