Side AIR Bag Module

- Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Remove appropriate side air bag module from vehicle and mount in a vise. See SIDE AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Firmly secure Air Bag Module Bracket (J41246) in a vise. Make two 0.256" (6.5 mm) diameter holes in bracket at positions shown in diagram. See Fig 1 . Match 2 holes in air bag module bracket to side air bag module studs. Secure air bag module to bracket with 2 nuts (6 mm). See Fig 2 .
- Connect Air Bag Deployment Tool (J38381) to side air bag module connector using Air Bag Deployment Adapter (J38381-35). Position a fully charged 12-volt battery at least 16 feet (4.9 m) from deployment area. Connect Red deployment tool clip to positive battery terminal and Black deployment tool clip to negative battery terminal.
- Ensure deployment tool power lamp glows Green. If deployment tool power lamp glows Red, reverse battery connections and recheck lamp. Ensure no one is within 16 feet (4.9 m) of side air bag module. Press deployment tool button to deploy side air bag module.
