WARNING: Accidental air bag deployment is possible. Personal injury may result. Read and follow all WARNINGS and AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS  before working on air bag system or related components.

The purpose of the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), or air bag system, is to work in conjunction with seat belts to reduce the risk of serious injury to front and rear seat passengers, during certain frontal or side collisions.

The main components of the air bag system are the driver-side and passenger-side dual stage air bag modules, right and left front seat air bag modules (side air bag modules), right and left front and rear curtain (head impact) air bag modules, diagnosis sensor unit (diagnosis control unit), right and left satellite sensors, right and left front seat belt pretensioners, crash zone sensor, occupant classification system, including belt tension sensor, AIR BAG warning light, wiring harness and spiral cable. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . The diagnosis sensor unit monitors air bag system operation and records fault messages when a system malfunction is detected.
