Driver-side AIR Bag Module

  1. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  . Remove driver-side air bag module from vehicle. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE & SPIRAL CABLE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Mount Air Bag Module Bracket (J41246) in a vise. Secure air bag module to bracket with 0.04" (1 mm) heavy-gauge wire. See Fig 1 . Mount air bag module bracket securely in a vise, with air bag facing upward.
  3. Position fully charged 12-volt battery at least 16 feet (5 m) from deployment area. Connect Air Bag Deployment Tool (J38381) to air bag module connector using Deployment Adapter (J38381-80). Connect Red deployment tool clip to positive battery terminal and Black deployment tool clip to negative battery terminal.
  4. Ensure deployment tool power light glows Green. If deployment tool power light glows Red, reverse battery connections and recheck power light. Ensure no one is within 16 feet (5 m) of air bag module. Touch deployment tool button to deploy driver-side air bag module.
