Bleeding Procedures

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Nissan Altima, 2003 Nissan Altima, and 2002 Nissan Altima. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Use only clean DOT 3 brake fluid. Ensure no dirt or other foreign matter contaminates brake fluid. DO NOT mix different brands of brake fluid, as they may not be compatible. Avoid spilling brake fluid on car, as it will damage paint. If brake fluid contacts paint, immediately flush with water.
CAUTION: Carefully monitor brake fluid level at master cylinder during bleeding operation. Fill reservoir with NEW brake fluid "DOT 3". Make sure it is full at all times while bleeding air out of system. Place a container under master cylinder to avoid spillage of brake fluid. DO NOT loosen the connecting portion of the actuator during air bleeding.
NOTE: Check fluid level in master cylinder frequently during bleeding procedure.
  1. For models with ABS, turn ignition switch OFF and disconnect ABS actuator and control unit connectors or battery ground cable. Connect a transparent vinyl tube to air bleeder valve.
  2. Fully depress brake pedal several times. With brake pedal depressed, open air bleeder valve to release air. Close air bleeder valve. Release brake pedal slowly. Tighten air bleeder valve to 62-80 INCH lbs. (7-9 N.m).
  3. Repeat steps 1-3 until clear brake fluid comes out of air bleeder valve. Bleed air using the BRAKELINE BLEEDING SEQUENCE  table in BRAKELINE BLEEDING SEQUENCE.
