Driver-side Air Bag Module

  1. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  . Mount Air Bag Deployment Bracket (J41246A) securely in vise. Remove driver-side air bag module from vehicle. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE & SPIRAL CABLE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Using wire at least 0.04" (1 mm) in diameter, attach driver-side air bag to air bag deployment bracket. See Fig 1 . Connect Air Bag Deployment Tool (J38381) to air bag module connector, using appropriate adapter. See SPECIAL TOOLS  .
  3. Position fully charged 12-volt battery at least 16 ft. (5 m) from deployment area. Connect Red deployment tool clip to positive battery terminal and Black deployment tool clip to negative battery terminal. See Fig 2 .
  4. Ensure deployment tool power lamp glows Green. If deployment tool power lamp glows Red, reverse battery connections and recheck lamp. Ensure no one is within 16 ft. (5 m) of air bag module. Press deployment tool button to deploy air bag.
