Assembly (3)
- Remove reverse clutch assembly.
- Install needle bearing on input shaft assembly (high clutch drum).CAUTION: Be careful with the direction of needle bearing.
- Install reverse clutch assembly.CAUTION: Align teeth of reverse clutch drive plates before installing.
- Install anchor end pin (2) and lock nut (1) on transaxle case.
- Place brake band on outside of reverse clutch drum.
- Tighten anchor end pin just enough so that brake band is evenly fitted on reverse clutch drum.
- Install bearing race selected in total end play adjustment step on oil pump cover.
- Install thrust washer selected in reverse clutch end play adjustment step on oil pump cover.
- Install O-ring to oil pump assembly.
- Install oil pump assembly (1) on transaxle case.
- Tighten oil pump bolts to the specified torque. Refer to "COMPONENT ".
- Install O-ring to input shaft assembly (high clutch drum).
- Adjust brake band.
- Tighten anchor end pin to the specified torque.
Anchor end pin bolt : 4.9 N.m (0.50 kg-m, 43 in-lb)
- Back off anchor end pin two and a half turns.
- Tighten lock nut while holding anchor end pin. Refer to "COMPONENT ".
- Tighten anchor end pin to the specified torque.
- Apply compressed air into oil holes of transaxle case and check operation of brake band.
- Select proper thickness of differential side bearing adjusting shim using the following procedures. (HR16DE engine models)
- Measure differential side bearing end play, and calculate the adjusting shim thickness so that the end play is within the specifications.
Differential side bearing end play : Refer to "TOTAL END PLAY "
- Place a straightedge (A) onto transaxle case (1), and measure the depth (T) of transaxle case (1) to the mating surface for differential side bearing using depth gauge (B).

- Measure the T in at least two places, and take the average .
- Install final drive assembly onto converter housing(1).
- Place straightedge (A) onto differential case (2), and measure the height (U) to the end of the converter housing (1) using depth gauge (B).
- Measure differential side bearing end play, and calculate the adjusting shim thickness so that the end play is within the specifications.
- Install differential side bearing adjusting shim selected in differential side bearing end play adjustment step to transaxle case. (HR16DE engine models only)
- Install final drive assembly on transaxle case.
- Install differential lubricant tube (1) and clips (2) on converter housing.

- Install O-ring on differential oil port of transaxle case.
- Apply recommended (Genuine Anaerobic Liquid Gasket or equivalent) to transaxle case as shown in the illustration.

- : 3 - 5 mm (0.12 - 0.20 in)
- : 8 mm (0.31 in) R
- : 1.5 mm (0.059 in) dia .
- : 4 mm (0.16 in)
CAUTION: Completely remove all moisture, oil and old sealant, etc. from the transaxle case and converter housing mating surfaces.
- Install converter housing on transaxle case.
- Install bracket on converter housing.
- Tighten converter housing bolts (1) and (2) to the specified torque. Refer to "COMPONENT ".
- Install plug or speedometer pinion according to the following procedures.
- With ABS
- Install O-ring (3) to plug (1).
- Install plug (1) to converter housing (2).
- Without ABS
- Install O-ring (3) to speedometer pinion (1).
- Install speedometer pinion (1) to converter housing (2).
- With ABS
- Tighten plug or speedometer pinion bolt to the specified torque. Refer to "COMPONENT ".
- Install accumulator pistons.
- Install O-rings (1) on servo release accumulator piston (2) and N-D accumulator piston (3). Refer to "ACCUMULATOR ".
- Install return springs (1), servo release accumulator piston (2) and N-D accumulator piston (3) into transaxle case (4). Refer to "ACCUMULATOR ".
- Install lip seals (1) for band servo oil holes on transaxle case.
- Install control valve assembly on transaxle case.
- Install O-ring on terminal body.CAUTION:
- Do not reuse O-ring.
- Apply ATF to O-ring.
- Insert manual valve into control valve assembly.CAUTION: Be careful not to drop manual valve.
- Set manual shaft in "N" position.
- Install control valve assembly on transaxle case while aligning manual valve (2) with manual plate (1).
- Install terminal body (2) into transaxle case by pushing it.
- Install snap ring (1) to terminal body (2).
- Tighten bolts (A), (B) and (C) to the specified torque. Refer to
"COMPONENT ".

- Install O-ring on terminal body.
- Install oil pan.
- Attach magnets on oil pan.
- Install oil pan gasket on transaxle case.CAUTION:
- Completely remove all moisture, oil and old gasket, etc. from the oil pan gasket mating surface of transaxle case.
- Do not reuse oil pan gasket.
- Install oil pan on transaxle case.CAUTION: Completely remove all moisture, oil and old gasket, etc. from the oil pan gasket mating surface of oil pan.
- Tighten oil pan bolts (1) to the specified torque. Refer to
"COMPONENT ".

CAUTION:- Always replace oil pan bolts (1) as they are self-sealing bolts.
- Tighten four bolts in a criss-cross pattern to prevent dislocation of gasket.
- Install drain plug gasket and drain plug (2) to oil pan.CAUTION: Do not reuse drain plug gasket.
- Tighten drain plug to the specified torque. Refer to "COMPONENT ".
- Install transmission range switch (2) on transaxle case.
- Set manual shaft (1) in "P" position.
- Temporarily install transmission range switch (2) on manual shaft (1).
- Set manual shaft (1) in "N" position.
- Use a 4 mm (0.16 in) dia. pin for this adjustment.
- Insert the pin straight into the manual shaft (1) adjustment hole.
- Rotate transmission range switch (2) until the pin can also be inserted straight into hole in transmission range switch (2).
- Tighten transmission range switch bolts to the specified torque. Refer to "COMPONENT ".
- Remove pin from adjustment hole after adjusting transmission range switch (2).
- Install O-ring (3) to input speed sensor (1).
- Install input speed sensor (1) to transaxle case (2).
- Tighten input speed sensor bolt to the specified torque. Refer to "COMPONENT ".
- Install output speed sensor (1) to transaxle case (2).
- Tighten output speed sensor bolts to the specified torque. Refer to
"COMPONENT ".
CAUTION: Ensure output speed sensor harness is firmly secured with bolt.
- Output speed sensor
- Install torque converter.
- Pour ATF into torque converter.
- Approximately 1 liter (1 US qt, 7/8 Imp pt) of fluid is required for a new torque converter.
- When reusing old torque converter, add the same amount of ATF as was drained.
- Install torque converter while aligning notches of torque converter with notches of oil pump.
- Measure distance (A) to make sure that torque converter is in proper position.

MR18DE models : 14.4 mm (0.567 in) or more
