Transaxle Assembly: Disassembly
CAUTION:
Never disassemble other than the parts shown in "COMPONENTS".
- Remove drain plug
and overflow tube
, and drain the ATF from the transaxle assembly.
NOTE: A/T fluid does not completely drain from drain plug mounting hole. - Remove drain plug gasket
from drain plug
.
- Remove torque convertor
from transaxle.
- Remove O-ring
from input shaft.
- Remove manual lever mounting nut
, manual lever
and lock washer
from manual shaft.
- Remove transmission range switch mounting bolts
and remove transmission range switch
from transaxle.
- Remove breather cap
from transaxle.
NOTE: This work is carried out when breather cap is damaged. - Remove output speed sensor
from transaxle.
- Remove O-ring
from output speed sensor.
- Remove oil pan bolts (
).
- Remove oil pan
and oil pan gasket
.
- Remove magnets
from oil pan.
- Remove manual plate mounting nut (A), lock washer
, and manual plate
.
CAUTION: Fix manual plate to avoid its rotation when it is torqued. - Remove control valve assembly bolts
and
.
- Remove control valve assembly pushing A/T unit connector
into the case by hand.
CAUTION: Never drop manual valve.
- Remove rip seal
from transaxle case.
- Remove retaining plate
, accumulator return springs
, and accumulator piston
from transaxle case.
- Remove convertor housing bolts
and
.

- Remove convertor housing
by softly tapping with silicon hammer.
- Remove baffle plate
from convertor housing.
- Remove differential side bearing adjust shim
from convertor housing.
- Remove differential side oil seal
from convertor housing using a suitable tool.
CAUTION: Never scratch converter housing. - Remove reduction pinion gear bearing outer race
from convertor housing using puller (SST: KV381054S0).
CAUTION: Never scratch converter housing. - Remove reduction pinion gear bearing adjust shim
from convertor housing.
- Remove breather pipe and dowel pin from converter housing.
- Remove final drive assembly
from transaxle case.
- Remove oil pump assembly bolts (
) and remove baffle plate
and oil pump assembly
.
- Remove needle bearing
from low clutch assembly.
- Remove low clutch assembly
.
- Remove thrust washer
from low clutch hub.
- Remove low clutch hub
.
- Remove parking pawl shaft spacer
.
- Remove return spring
.
- Remove parking pawl
.
- Remove parking pawl shaft
.
- Remove reduction pinion gear assembly
.
- Remove side cover bolt (
) and remove side cover
.
- Remove seal rings
and thrust washer
from side cover
.
- Loosen anchor end bolt nut
and remove anchor end bolt
.
- Remove 2-4 band brake
.
- Remove O-rings
.
- Remove accumulator return springs
and accumulator pistons
.
- Remove reverse clutch assembly
.
- Remove needle bearing
from high clutch assembly.
- Remove high clutch assembly
.
- Remove seal rings
from high clutch assembly
.
- Remove needle bearing
from high clutch hub.
- Remove high clutch hub
.
- Remove needle bearing
from front sun gear.
- Remove front sun gear
.
- Remove needle bearing
from front planetary carrier.
- Remove snap ring
using a suitable tool.
- Lift center portion
of front planetary carrier and remove low one way clutch
and planetary gear pack
together.
- Remove snap ring
using a suitable tool.
- Remove retaining plate of low & reverse brake, drive plates, driven plats, and dish plate.
- Remove snap ring
using clutch spring compressor (A) (SST: KV31102400).
- Remove spring retainer assembly
.
- Blow air into oil hole (
) of transaxle and remove low & reverse brake piston
.
CAUTION: Not blow air suddenly.NOTE: Place retaining plate () and push it by hand temporarily while air blowing to avoid air leak.
- Remove D-rings
from low & reverse brake piston.
- Press band servo piston retainer
using puller (A) (SST: ST33051001) and remove snap ring of band servo piston retainer.
- Remove servo spring
, band servo piston
, and band servo piston retainer
.
- Remove D-ring
, snap ring
, washer
, and stem
from band servo piston
.
- Remove O-rings
from band servo piston
.
- Remove differential side oil seal
from transaxle case using suitable tool.
CAUTION: Never scratch transaxle case when removing side oil seal. - Remove reduction pinion gear bearing outer race
from transaxle case using puller (SST: KV381054S0).
CAUTION: Never scratch transaxle case when removing outer race.
