Ignition Timing: 4.1L

  1. Place transmission in Park. Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature. Turn A/C and all accessories off.
  2. Disconnect and plug vacuum line at automatic parking brake release (if equipped). Remove air cleaner. Connect timing light to Number 1 spark plug. Connect tachometer (distributor side of tach filter, if equipped).
  3. With engine running, install a jumper wire between terminals "A" and "B" of diagnostic connector. Connector is under left side of instrument panel near steering column.
  4. Set timing at specified engine RPM. See IGNITION TIMING SPECIFICATIONS table. Recheck timing after tightening distributor housing. With engine still running, remove jumper wire from diagnostic connector (if removed before engine is shut off, no trouble code will be stored).
