Brake Release Switch Check

  1. Turn ignition on. Set cruise control engagement switch to ON position. Install Tech 1 Scan tester. Tech 1 should read brake switch input as "N" (no) with brake pedal released and "Y" (yes) with brake pedal depressed.
  2. If brake switch status is incorrect on Tech 1, probe Gray wire of brake switch connector with a test light to ground. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM CHECK under TESTING & DIAGNOSIS.
  3. Using a jumper wire, connect Gray and Brown wires on brake switch connector. If Tech 1 brake switch status switches from "N" to "Y" as wires are connected, adjust and/or replace brake switch.
  4. If brake switch status on Tech 1 does not change when wires are connected, check Brown wire for open or short between brake switch and PCM. Repair as necessary. If wire is okay, check for poor connection at PCM. If PCM connection is okay, replace PCM.
