- Connect scan tool. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Turn A/C system on. Using scan tool, enter SDL monitor mode. Monitor communication between Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and instrument cluster. If A/C request display is NO, go to next step. If A/C request is YES, locate and repair problem in PCM system. See appropriate TESTS W/CODES
article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE section:
- TESTS W/CODES - 2.4L
- TESTS W/CODES - 3.1L
- Using scan tool, monitor instrument cluster data list. If A/C request display is NO, go to next step. If A/C request is YES, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
- Using test light, backprobe between A/C-heater control assembly Black 3-pin connector C2, terminal "A" (Light Green wire) and ground. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair open in Light Green wire between instrument cluster and A/C-heater control assembly. Recheck system operation.
- Disconnect A/C-heater control assembly connector C2. Connect a test light between A/C-heater control assembly harness connector C2, terminal "C" (Brown wire) and ground. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, replace A/C-heater control assembly. See A/C-HEATER SYSTEM article in AIR CONDITIONING & HEAT section.
- Check for open in Brown wire between A/C-heater control assembly and fuse block. Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If circuit is okay, locate and repair problem in HVAC system. See A/C-HEATER SYSTEM article in AIR CONDITIONING & HEAT section.
