Diagnostic Check
NOTE:
Diagnostic check determines if PCM is capable of controlling cruise control module. If diagnostic check fails, PCM, cruise control module or linkage may be at fault.
- Connect scan tool. Turn ignition on. Check for PCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). If any PCM DTCs are set, diagnose engine control system. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If no PCM DTCs are set, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, command PCM to enable cruise. Set parking brake and start engine. Turn cruise control off, and then on and wait at least 3 seconds. Push and hold SET/COAST switch. Hold cruise switch in RES/ACCEL position. Depress and hold brake pedal.
- After 10 seconds or more, release brake pedal while holding RES/ACCEL and SET/COAST switches. If engine RPM increases momentarily, and then returns to idle, go to SYSTEM CHECK . If engine RPM does not increase, and then return to idle, go to next step.
- Check cruise control mechanical linkage for binding or disconnected components. Repair as necessary and return to step 1 . If no problems are found, go to SYSTEM CHECK .
