Variable-Assist Controls

  1. Connect a 12-volt, 1.2 watt lamp between battery positive terminal and terminal No. 12A M899 (located on inner front left fender).
  2. Turn ignition to "ON" position. Check that lamp flashes. If lamp flashes 3 times, variable-assist system is working properly. If fault is still present, check hydraulic pressures. Refer to HYDRAULIC SYSTEM PRESSURE CHECK  .
  3. If lamp flashes 2 times, check electrical circuit between ECU and servo regulator for shorts, open circuits or loose or dirty connections.
  4. If lamp flashes one time, check electrical circuit between ECU and speed sensor for shorts, open circuits or loose or dirty connections.
  5. If lamp does not flash, check power circuit to ECU for shorts, open circuits or loose or dirty connections. If circuit checks satisfactory, replace ECU. Retest variable-assist system.
