WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1987 Plymouth Gran Fury, 1987 Dodge Diplomat, and 1987 Chrysler Fifth Avenue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Inspect tires for feathered edges and steering components for wear before adjustment. Correct any mechanical conditions as necessary. Place front wheels in straight-ahead position with steering wheel centered.
- Secure steering wheel. On vehicles with power steering, start engine before centering wheel. When setting toe-in, keep engine running. Loosen tie rod clamp bolts. Adjust by turning sleeves.NOTE: To avoid a binding condition in either tie rod assembly, rotate both tie rod ends in direction of sleeve travel during adjustment. This will ensure both ends will be centered when clamps are tightened.
- Position clamps so ends do not locate in sleeve slots. Tighten clamp bolts. See Fig 1 . Ensure clamp bolts are indexed at or near bottom to avoid possible interference with torsion bars when vehicle is at full jounce. Replace splash shields in original positions, if equipped.
