CONDITION & CAUSE
Some 1987-88 Caravan and Voyager, and 1988 Dynasty and New Yorker with 3.0L engine may display a false code 13. This condition may be caused by an incorrectly positioned MAP sensor. To repair this condition, the manufacturer has released a MAP sensor relocation kit (4419451) which consists of the following components:
- Map Sensor Bracket
- Jumper Harness
- Vacuum Hose
- Manifold Vacuum Connector
- Tie Wrap (3)
- Modification Label
DIAGNOSIS & REPAIR
- Using normal diagnostic procedures, ensure MAP sensor is operating correctly. If not, MAP sensor must be replaced. If MAP sensor operation is okay, proceed to next step.
- Replace the manifold vacuum connector on the right side of the intake manifold with new service part supplied with kit. Ensure the 2 smaller vacuum connections are installed in a horizontal position.
- Disconnect electrical connector and vacuum line and remove MAP sensor from its original location. Remove and discard MAP sensor bracket on Dynasty and New Yorker vehicles but retain bracket on Caravan and Voyager. Install new bracket by loosening bolt located on front of alternator bracket and slipping new bracket behind bolt head. Tighten bolt to 18 ft. lbs. (24 N.m).
- Use original screws and install MAP sensor on new bracket. Discard the old MAP sensor vacuum hose assembly and install the new hoses supplied in kit. Using jumper harness supplied in kit, connect MAP sensor to wiring harness connector.
