Preliminary Checks

Most driveability problems in the multi-point fuel injection system are the result of faulty wiring or loose and/or leaking hose connections. To avoid unnecessary testing, check the following before beginning trouble shooting procedures. A preliminary visual check should include:

• Air ducts at air cleaner, turbocharger and throttle body.
• All electrical connections at components.

Check vacuum lines for tight, leak-free connections in these areas:

• MAP sensor.
• PCV valve to turbocharger vacuum port.
• Solenoid bank.
• Throttle body.
• Vapor canister.

Ensure the following electrical connectors are properly attached:

• 14-pin and 60-pin connector at SMEC.
• ASD relay connections.
• Detonation sensor connections.
• Coolant temperature sensor connector.
• Distributor connectors.
• Fuel injector connectors.
• Radiator fan relay connectors.
• O2 sensor connector.
• Speed sensor connector.
• Throttle body connector.
