Quick-Connect Fittings: Installation

CAUTION: When using ASD Fuel System Test, Auto Shutdown (ASD) Relay remains energized for either 7 minutes, until test is stopped, or until ignition switch is turned to OFF position.
CAUTION: Never install a quick-connect fitting without the retainer being either on fuel tube or already in quick-connect fitting. In either case, ensure retainer locks securely into quick-connect fitting by firmly pulling on fuel tube and fitting to ensure it is secured.
  1. Using a clean lint-free cloth, clean fuel tube nipple and retainer. Prior to connecting fitting to fuel tube, coat fuel tube nipple with clean 30 weight engine oil.
  2. Push quick-connect fitting over fuel tube until retainer seats and a click is heard. The plastic quick-connect fitting has windows in sides of casing.
  3. If they are not visible, retainer was not properly installed. See Fig 1. Do not rely upon the audible click to confirm a secure connection. When the fitting completely attaches to fuel tube, retainer locking ears and fuel tube shoulder are visible in windows.
  4. Use DRB scan tool ASD Fuel System Test to pressurize fuel system. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article. Check for leaks.
