Descriptions. Operation: Notes

Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) is accomplished primarily through two temperature sensing "sensors". One is located near the glove box to sense in-car temperature. The other, located in the air passage from the cowl vent, senses incoming air temperature. The sensors are wired in series with a temperature potentiometer on the control panel. As temperatures change in the area of the sensors, the resistance of the series circuit also varies and a variable input signal is sent to a D.C. amplifier.

The signal supplied to the amplifier determines the amount of heating or cooling produced by the system by changing the position of the "programmer" unit. The programmer controls a temperature door, rotary vacuum valves and blower speeds. Regulation of these components by the programmer determines discharge air temperature and quantity, and pattern of conditioned air distribution. Except for automatically maintaining any desired mode of operation and in-car temperature, the remainder of the system is basically the same as the manually controlled system.
