Functional Test

NOTE: Tests must be performed on complete car, engine running at normal operating temperature, hood closed and approximately 75°F. ambient temperature.
  1. Place Selector Lever at OFF, blower switch to HI, Temperature Lever at full WARM.
    1. No air flow from any outlets.
  2. Move Selector Lever to NORMAL.
    1. Blower comes on low speed, then progresses to high speed.
    2. Hot air from heater outlet, some air from defroster nozzles. No airflow from A/C outlets.
  3. Move Temperature Lever to full COLD.
    1. Airflow from both A/C and heater outlets at first, then from A/C outlets only. Blower noise level will increase.
    2. Blower speed goes Hi-Lo-Hi with increase in speed in bi-level (warm air from heater outlet, cool air from A/C outlet).
  4. Move Temperature Lever slowly toward WARM until airflow is from A/C and heater outlets at same time, then move Selector Lever to INSIDE.
    1. Blower air noise level will increase.
  5. Move Temperature Lever to full COLD, place Selector Lever at DEFOG.
    1. Cold air chiefly from defroster nozzles, some air from heater outlet.
  6. Move Selector Lever to DEICE.
    1. Airflow same as step 6, temperature changes from cold to hot.
    2. Blower goes to high speed.
  7. Move blower switch to LO.
    1. Blower speed and air flow decrease.
  8. If tests show system to be functioning properly it is not necessary to turn the system to OFF since it will automatically operate whenever the car is started and assume mode and temperature of last control settings. System will start almost immediately in warm weather with delaying action in cold weather until heat is available from engine coolant.
NOTE: Moving the Selector Lever to DEICE will override the automatic controls and direct maximum heat toward the windshield.
