Fuel Pump Flow Test
- Disconnect fuel line between fuel pump and filter. Place end of fuel line in measuring container.
- On V8 engine, run at idle until 1 pint (1/2 L) of fuel is pumped. One pint (1/2 L) should be pumped in 30 seconds or less. If flow is below normal, check fuel line for restriction. Replace fuel pump if there are no restrictions.
- On V6 engine, turn ignition switch to "RUN" position. Pump should supply 1/2 pint (1/5 L) in 15 seconds. If not, disconnect inlet hose at pump and connect a vacuum gauge.
- Turn ignition switch to "RUN" position. Vacuum must be 5.3 in. Hg. If less, replace pump. If more, check fuel lines for splits, leaks, or kinks.
