Cuts Out Or Misses

If vehicle pulses or jerks steadily, and exhaust has a steady spitting sound at idle or low speed, check the following:

• Perform a careful visual inspection.
• Ensure ignition system operation is correct.
• Ensure spark plug wire resistance is less than 30,000 ohms.
• If ignition system is suspected and all components have been checked, spray wires with a fine mist of water to check for shorts.
• Ensure fuel system operation is correct.
• Check engine compression and valve timing.
• Check camshaft, valve springs and valve train components.
