Lack Of Power Or Sluggish

If engine power is less than expected, or little or no speed increase is noted when accelerator pedal is depressed, check the following:

• Verify the complaint.
• Check air filter for dirt or to see if it is plugged.
• Ensure ignition system output is correct.
• Ensure fuel pressure is correct and filter is not restricted.
• Check ECM ground contact on engine.
• Ensure EGR operation is correct.
• Ensure alternator output voltage is 9-16 volts.
• Check valve timing and compression.
• Check camshaft for excessive wear.
• Ensure torque converter clutch operation is okay.
• Ensure secondary ignition is okay.
• Ensure exhaust system is not restricted.
