Gearshift Linkage

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Position gearshift lever in Neutral. Loosen shift rod clamp bolt. See Fig 1 . Remove adjustment hole plug from shift lever cover. See Fig 2 .

  2. Turn shift rod to the left until a 3/16" gauge pin can be inserted in oil plug hole of intermediate shift lever. Remove boot from center console and pull it upward to expose shift control lever mechanism.

  3. Position gearshift lever to the 1st/2nd shift plane while still in Neutral. Position lever against stop and align arrow with notch. See Fig 3 . Tighten shift rod clamp bolt to 10 ft. lbs. (14 N.m), then turn bolt an additional 90-180 degrees.

  4. Check clearance between selector catch and stop with lever in Neutral. Clearance should be the same as dimension "C" .12" (3 mm). See Fig 4 . If not, bend 2 locking tabs and turn adjusting nut until dimension is correct. Bend locking tabs down, remove gauge pin and install plug.

  5. Check gearshift lever for proper adjustment. Readjust if necessary. Install boot, center console and connect negative battery cable.
