Anti-Lock Brake System - Abs-VI: Diagnosis: Notes

NOTE: Due to Federal government requirements, manufacturer may use names and acronyms for systems and components different than those used in previous years. Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) may also be referred to as trouble codes or codes. Data Link Connector (DLC) may also be referred to as ALDL connector.
NOTE: Tech 1 Scan Tester (94-00101-A) is needed to diagnose ABS-VI.

Before attempting any diagnostic procedures, road test vehicle to verify complaint. Perform pre-diagnostic visual inspection to detect obvious problems. See PRE-DIAGNOSTIC INSPECTION. Repair problems if necessary, and retest vehicle.

If no obvious problem is found, scan ABS system for trouble codes. Attach Tech 1 Scan Tester (94-00101-A) to ALDL connector, and follow Tech 1 Scan Tester instructions to retrieve trouble codes. If trouble codes are found, proceed to diagnostic flow charts. See DIAGNOSTIC CHARTS.

If no code is displayed, test drive vehicle while using Automatic Snapshot feature of Tech 1 scan tester. See SNAPSHOT. If failures cannot be reproduced, use Enhanced Diagnostic feature to reveal ABS fault history. See ENHANCED DIAGNOSTICS.
