Column Switches

NOTE: Use following procedure to test lighting and wiper/washer systems. For additional testing procedures, see appropriate WIPER/WASHER SYSTEMS - FRONT article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Black 48-cavity steering column harness-to-main harness connector under instrument panel. To locate correct terminals of switch to be tested, see 48-CAVITY CONNECTOR TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION table. See appropriate article for circuit being tested in the ACCESSORIES/SAFETY EQUIPMENT Section for wiring diagram. Locate switch in wiring diagram.
  2. Connector terminals represented in wiring diagram (identified by a letter/number combination) match connector terminals of 48-cavity connector illustrated. See Fig 1 .
  3. Check continuity between appropriate terminals of 48-cavity connector according to selected switch position. If continuity is not correct for selected switch position, check for open in circuit between 48-cavity connector and switch. If circuit is okay, replace switch.
