Trunk/Hatch Release - Power: Testing: Notes
NOTE:
On models with Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) systems, see KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM - REMOTE
article for specific testing of trunk/hatchback release system.
- Turn ignition on. Backprobe test light between hatch release actuator terminal "A" (Black/White wire) and ground. If test light does not come on, go to next step. If test light comes on, check for short to voltage in Black/White wire between hatch release actuator and hatch release relay. If circuit is okay, check for a stuck closed hatch release relay.
- Backprobe test light between hatch release relay terminal C1 (Orange wire) and ground. If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, check PWR ACCY fuse No. 7 in instrument panel fuse block for an open. If fuse is blown, check for short to ground in Orange wire. If fuse is okay, check Orange wire for an open circuit.
- Disconnect hatch release relay connector. Momentarily connect a fused jumper wire between connector terminals C1 (Orange wire) and A2 (Black/White wire). If hatch release actuator works, go to step 5). If hatch release actuator does not work, reconnect fused jumper wire. Backprobe test light between hatch release actuator connector terminal "A" (Black/White wire) and ground. If test light is on, go to next step. If test light is not on, check for open circuit in Black/White wire between hatch release relay and hatch release actuator.
- Disconnect hatch release actuator. Connect test light between hatch release actuator connector terminals "A" (Black/White wire) and "B" (Black wire). If test light comes on, check for poor connection at hatch release actuator. If connection is okay, replace hatch release actuator. If test light does not come on, check for open circuit in Black wire between hatch release actuator and ground.
- Backprobe test light between hatch release relay terminal C2 (Brown wire) and ground. Operate hatch release switch. If test light comes on, go to step 8). If test light does not come on, go to next step.
- Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connectors C3 and C2. Connect test light between connector C2, terminal "B" (Orange wire) and connector C3, terminal D3 (Black/White wire). Press rear compartment lid release switch. If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, check for an open circuit in Black/White wire. If wire is okay, replace rear compartment lid release switch.
- Momentarily connect a fused jumper wire between BCM connector C2, terminal "B" (Orange wire) and connector C3, terminal D4 (Brown wire). If hatch release operates, replace BCM. If hatch release does not operate, repair open circuit in Brown wire.
- Connect multimeter set on DC scale between hatch release relay connector terminals C1 (Orange wire) and A1 (Orange/Black wire - A/T, Tan/White wire - M/T). Place selector in Park or Neutral for A/T. Set parking brake for M/T. If 9-15 volts DC are not present, go to next step. If 9-15 volts DC are present, check for poor connections at hatch release relay. If connections are okay, replace hatch release relay.
- On A/T equipped vehicles, check for open circuits and/or poor ground at transmission range switch. If all circuits are okay, replace switch. On M/T equipped vehicles, check for open circuits and/or poor ground at parking brake switch. If equipped with Daytime Running Lights (DRL), check for poor connection at DRL module connector C1, terminals "D" (Tan/White wire) and "E" (Light Blue wire). If all circuits are okay, replace parking brake switch. See WIRING DIAGRAM .
