Test F: Theft Led Inoperative: Testing

  1. If theft deterrent diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If theft deterrent diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform diagnostic system check before proceeding. See THEFT DETERRENT DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Arm Content Theft Deterrent (CTD) system. See CONTENT THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM  under DESCRIPTION & OPERATION. If THEFT Light Emitting Diode (LED) does not illuminate, go to next step. If THEFT LED illuminates, inspect for intermittents or poor connections. See TROUBLE SHOOTING .
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) 32-pin harness connector C3. BCM is located behind right side of instrument panel, near blower motor. See Figure. Connect a fused jumper wire between battery positive voltage and BCM harness connector C3 terminal C16 (Dark Green wire). See Figure. If THEFT LED does not illuminate, go to next step. If THEFT LED illuminates, go to step  6.
  4. Disconnect THEFT LED 2-pin harness connector. Connect a test light between battery positive voltage and THEFT LED Black wire terminal. If THEFT LED illuminates, go to next step. If THEFT LED does not illuminate, go to step  8.
  5. Inspect Dark Green wire for an open or short to ground between ground and BCM harness connector C3 terminal C16. See Figure. If an open or short to ground is not found, go to step  7. If an open or short to ground is found, repair an necessary then go to step  11.
  6. Disconnect all BCM harness connectors. Inspect for corroded or pushed out pins. Connect all BCM harness connectors. Operate system and verify if concern still exists. If concern still exists, go to step  9. If concern does not exist, go to step  11. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
  7. Inspect THEFT LED harness connector for poor connections. If poor connections are not found, go to step  10. If poor connections are found, repair as necessary then go to step  11.
  8. Repair open in Black wire between THEFT LED and ground. Ground point is located behind left kick panel, near "A" pillar. Go to step  11.
  9. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under PROGRAMMING. After replacement, go to step  11.
  10. Replace THEFT LED, then go to next step.
  11. Operate system to verify repair. If system is not operating correctly, repeat test beginning at step  3.
