Removal Procedure

- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
- Support the rear axle independently in order to relieve the tension on the leaf springs.
- Remove the trailer hitch if equipped. Refer to Trailer Hitch Replacement in Frame and Underbody.
- Remove the fuel tank for left side applications. Refer toFuel Tank Replacement (Pickup) or Fuel Tank Replacement (Pickup - 5.3L (L59) Engine) or Fuel Tank Replacement (1500 Crew Cab) or Fuel Tank Replacement (Cab/Chassis - Front) or Fuel Tank Replacement (Cab/Chassis - Rear) in Engine Controls - 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L; or Fuel Tank Replacement in Engine Controls - 4.3L or Fuel Tank Replacement (Pickup) or Fuel Tank Replacement (Cab/Chassis - Front) or Fuel Tank Replacement (Cab/Chassis - Rear) in Engine Controls - 6.6L; or Fuel Tank Replacement (Pickup) or Fuel Tank Replacement (Cab/Chassis - Front) or Fuel Tank Replacement (Cab/Chassis - Rear) in Engine Controls - 8.1L.
- Remove the U-bolt nuts.
- Remove the U-bolts.
- Remove the spring spacer.
- Remove the anchor plate.
- Remove the rear spring hanger bracket nut and bolt.
- Remove the front spring bracket bolt.
- Remove the leaf spring assembly from the vehicle.
