Shift Lock Solenoid: Removal

- Place the gearshift lever in Park position. Remove the left closeout insulator panel. See LEFT SIDE INSULATOR PANEL . Loosen the left front carpet to allow access to the park lock cable routing.
- Remove the 4 steering column bolts and lower the steering column. See appropriate STEERING COLUMNS article in STEERING.
- Turn the ignition key to RUN position. Slip a flat blade screwdriver into the slot provided in the ignition switch inhibitor. Depress the cable latch and pull the park lock cable from the inhibitor.
- Remove the radio and console trim plates. See CENTER INSTRUMENT PANEL TRIM and CONSOLE TRIM PLATE . Remove the park lock cable at the shift control assembly. Remove the park lock cable from the vehicle.
NOTE:
Do not attempt to perform this step with the ignition key in any other position except RUN.
