Case Extension Housing: Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Support the vehicle with safety stands. Remove the right front drive axle. See appropriate AXLE SHAFTS article in DRIVELINE/AXLES.
  2. Remove the wiring harness. Remove the bolts securing the front transaxle brace to the transaxle and right cylinder head. See TRANSAXLE BRACE  .
  3. Remove the right transaxle to engine brace. Remove the vehicle speed sensor. See VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR  . Remove the ground wire from the case.
  4. Remove the following parts from the case extension:
    • Five 13-mm bolts (128 and 129).
    • One 15-mm stud (127).
  5. Remove the case extension (134) and the seal (126). See Fig 1 . Remove the roller thrust bearing (132) and the selective washer (133).
  6. Remove the 8-mm scavenge tube bolt (15). See Fig 2 . Remove the scavenge tube by prying on the differential. Remove the scavenge tube seal. See Fig 3 .
