Removal Procedure

CAUTION:
This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
- Air bag deployment
- Personal injury
- Unnecessary SIR system repairs
- Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
- If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
- Disable the SIR System. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
- Remove the following components from the steering column:
- The lower trim cover screw
Important: It is not necessary to remove the steering wheel to access the lower trim cover screws. The screws can be easily accessed by rotating the steering wheel.
- The 2 lower trim cover screws (2) that are located beneath the steering wheel (1).
- The lower trim cover screw
- The steering column lower trim cover (6).
- Remove the following components from the steering column:
- The steering column upper trim cover screw (3)
- The steering column upper trim cover (2)
- Inspect the base (1) for damage. If damage to the base is observed, replace the turn signal, headlamp and windshield washer switch as an assembly. Refer to AIR BAG MODULES .
- Disconnect the wiper/washer switch electrical connector (2).
- Remove the following components from the steering column:
- The 2 screws (1)
- The wiper/washer switch (3)
