Removal Procedure

CAUTION: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
  • Air bag deployment
  • Personal injury
  • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
  • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
  • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  1. Disable the SIR System. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
  2. Remove the following components from the steering column:
    • The lower trim cover screw

      Important:  It is not necessary to remove the steering wheel to access the lower trim cover screws. The screws can be easily accessed by rotating the steering wheel.

    • The 2 lower trim cover screws (2) that are located beneath the steering wheel (1).

  3. The steering column lower trim cover (6).

  4. Remove the following components from the steering column:
    • The steering column upper trim cover screw (3)
    • The steering column upper trim cover (2)

  5. Inspect the base (1) for damage. If damage to the base is observed, replace the turn signal, headlamp and windshield washer switch as an assembly. Refer to AIR BAG MODULES .
  6. Disconnect the wiper/washer switch electrical connector (2).
  7. Remove the following components from the steering column:
    • The 2 screws (1)
    • The wiper/washer switch (3)
