- If engine controls diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If engine controls diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to ENGINE CONTROLS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If water-in-fuel indicator does not illuminate briefly, go to next step. If water-in-fuel indicator illuminates briefly, go to step 6 .
- Disconnect water-in-fuel sensor, located on left frame rail, near center of the vehicle. Connect test light between ground and water-in-fuel sensor harness connector terminal "A" (Pink wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 7 .
- Connect test light between water-in-fuel sensor harness connector terminals "A" (Pink wire) and "C" (Black wire). See Fig 1 . If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 9 .
- Connect test light between ground and water-in-fuel sensor harness connector terminal "B" (Yellow/Black wire). If test light illuminates, go to step 8 . If test light does not illuminate, go to step 10 .
- Operate vehicle under conditions which fault was noted. If system operates properly, system is okay at this time. If system does not operate properly, go to step 2 .
- Check for open in Pink wire between GAUGES fuse (10-amp) in instrument panel fuse block and IPC harness connector terminal B17. See Figure and Figure . If Pink wire is okay, go to step 12 . If Pink wire is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 12 .
- Check water-in-fuel connector for intermittent or poor terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, go to step 11 . If terminal contact is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 12 .
- Check for open in Black wire between ground and water-in-fuel sensor harness connector terminal "C". If Black wire is okay, go to step 11 . If Black wire is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 12 .
- Repair open in Yellow/Black wire between water-in-fuel sensor and IPC. After repair, go to step 12 .
- Replace water-in-fuel sensor. After repair, go to next step.
- Operate system to verify fault no longer exists. If fault still exists, go to step 2 .
