- Perform PRELIMINARY INSPECTION under TROUBLESHOOTING. Go to next step.
- Turn parking lights on. Ensure instrument panel dimmer switch is set to maximum illumination. If illumination lights do not operate properly, go to next step. If illumination lights operate properly, problem may be intermittent. Try to recreate fault by wiggling wiring and connectors. Check for faulty connections at all connectors that may be causing intermittent condition.
- If only one light is inoperative, go to next step. If more than one light is inoperative, go to step 6 .
- Check for an open in supply voltage circuit (Gray wire) of inoperative light. If circuit is okay, go to next step. If circuit is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Check for an open in ground circuit of inoperative light. If ground circuit is okay, go to step 11 . If ground circuit is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
- If parking lights operate properly, go to next step. If parking lights do not operate properly, repair as necessary. See EXTERIOR LIGHTS article.
- Check ILLUM fuse, located in instrument panel fuse block. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is open, go to step 12 .
- Ensure instrument panel cluster dimmer switch is at maximum illumination. Connect test light between ground and ILLUM fuse. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step 14 .
- Using a test light connected to ground, backprobe headlight switch connector terminal "E" (Dark Green wire). If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step 13 .
- Check headlight and dimmer switch connector for intermittent or poor terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, go to step 16 . If terminal contact is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Check inoperative bulb connector for intermittent or poor terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, go to step 15 . If terminal contact is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Repair short to ground in Gray wire between ILLUM fuse and IPC. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Repair open in Dark Green wire between ILLUM fuse and headlight switch. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Repair open in Gray wire between ILLUM fuse and IPC. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Replace inoperative bulb. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Replace headlight and dimmer switch. After repair, go to next step.
- Operate system to verify fault no longer exists. If fault still exists, go to step 3 .
