Assembly Procedure

NOTE: When adding fluid or making a complete fluid change, always use the proper power steering fluid. Failure to use the proper fluid will cause hose and seal damage and fluid leaks.
  1. Apply fluid to a NEW pump shaft seal.
  2. Align the pump shaft seal with the pump front housing (1). Verify the edge of the outer lip will be toward the inside of the pump.
  3. Use a press and a seal driver collar in order to install the shaft seal into the front housing. Press from the outside of the housing toward the inside.

  4. Apply fluid to the pump shaft and to the front housing.
  5. Insert the pump shaft through the shaft seal and into the front housing.
  6. Apply fluid to a NEW large plate seal.

  7. Install the large plate seal (1) into the front housing (2).

  8. Apply fluid to a NEW small plate seal (2).
  9. Install the small plate seal to the plate (1).

  10. Align the notch in the plate (1) with the tab on the front housing (2). Verify the round holes in the plate are toward the shaft seal and the wide holes will be toward the rotor.
  11. Install the plate into the front housing.

  12. Align the notch in the pump ring with the tab on the front housing (2). Verify the stamping (1) will be toward the rotor.
  13. Install the pump ring into the front housing.

  14. Align the rotor with the front housing. Verify the stamping (1) will be toward the rear housing.
  15. Install the rotor into the front housing.
  16. Apply fluid to the vanes (2).
  17. Align each vane with the rotor. Verify the rounded edge will be toward the rear housing.
  18. Install the 10 vanes into the rotor.

  19. Install a NEW pump shaft retainer ring.

  20. Apply fluid to the rear pump housing seal.
  21. Install the seal to the rear pump housing.
  22. Align the notches on the following components:
    • The front housing
    • The plate
    • The ring
    • The rotor
    • The rear housing
  23. Install the rear housing to the front housing.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE .
  24. Install the 4 housing bolts.
    1. Tighten 
    2. Tighten the bolts to 22 N.m (16.2 lb ft).
  25. Apply fluid to the sealing portion of the power steering pressure (PSP) switch.
  26. Install the PSP switch to the pump.
    1. Tighten 
    2. Tighten the switch to 21 N.m (15.5 lb ft).
  27. Apply fluid to the flow control valve hole in the front housing.
  28. Apply fluid to the flow control valve spring.
  29. Install the spring to the pump.
  30. Apply fluid to the flow control valve.
  31. Install the valve to the pump.
  32. Apply fluid to a NEW pump fitting seal.
  33. Install the seal to the pump fitting.
  34. Install the pump fitting to the pump.
    1. Tighten 
    2. Tighten the fitting to 69 N.m (50.9 lb ft).
  35. Apply fluid to a NEW inlet tube seal.
  36. Install the seal to the pump inlet tube.
  37. Install the inlet tube to the pump.
  38. Install the pump inlet tube bolt.
    1. Tighten 
    2. Tighten the bolt to 12 N.m (106.2 Ib. in).
  39. Install the pump to the vehicle. Refer to POWER STEERING PUMP REPLACEMENT  .
