Installation Procedure

  1. Position the starter motor to the block.
  2. Install the starter motor bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the starter motor bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

    IMPORTANT: Orient the purple lead wire to the 10 o'clock position when installing.
  4. Install the starter motor S terminal washer and purple lead wire (1).
  5. Install the S terminal nut (2).

    Tighten:  Tighten the S terminal nut to 4 N.m (35 lb in).

    IMPORTANT: Orient gray and rust harness leads to the 6 o'clock and 7 o'clock position.
  6. Install the gray and rust harness leads to the solenoid.
  7. Install the positive battery cable terminal to the solenoid.
  8. Install the positive battery cable nut.

    Tighten:  Tighten the positive battery cable nut to 8 N.m (71 lb in).

  9. Install the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement in Engine Exhaust.

  11. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure .
