Removal Procedure
- Turn the steering wheel in order to move the front of the right wheel to the outboard most position in order to allow clearance to remove the power steering pump.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
- Remove the front right wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
- Remove the accessory drive belt from the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.6L (LY7).
- Remove the right engine splash shield. Refer to Splash Shield Replacement - Engine in Body Front End.
- Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft from the steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
- Use a utility stand in order to support the frame.
- Remove the rear frame bolts. Refer to Frame Replacement - Front (W/AWD) or Frame Replacement - Front (W/FWD) in Frame and Underbody.
- Use a utility stand in order to lower the frame and the powertrain.
- Disconnect the power steering pump inlet hose from the power steering pump.
- Disconnect the power steering pressure pipe/hose from the power steering pump.
- Remove the power steering pump mounting bolts.
- Remove the power steering pump from the vehicle.
- Cap off the power steering pump and hoses in order to prevent contamination.
- Remove the power steering pulley from the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pulley Replacement (LA1) or Power Steering Pulley Replacement (LY7) .
IMPORTANT:
Do not lower the rear of the frame too far as damage to the engine components nearest to the cowl may result.
