Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2004 Oldsmobile Bravada, 2004 GMC Envoy XUV, 2004 GMC Envoy XL, 2004 GMC Envoy, and 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Open the endgate (drop mode). Secure with the prop rod.
  2. Remove the right rear tail lamp assembly. Refer to Tail Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.

  4. Remove the bolt (2) retaining the endgate harness to the body.
  5. Remove the endgate harness grommet (3) from the body, but do not disconnect the harness.
  6. Remove the endgate support cable. Refer to Support Cable Replacement - Endgate .

  8. Remove the bolt (1) retaining the hinge assemblies to the endgate.
  9. Remove the upper hinge strap screw (2) retaining the body side hinge to the endgate side hinge.
  10. Close the endgate.
  11. Open the endgate (swing mode).
  12. Remove the endgate torque rod. Refer to Torque Rod Replacement - Endgate .
  13. Remove the endgate trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Endgate (Envoy XUV) .
  14. Remove the endgate control module. Refer to Module Rear Body Control Replacement - Endgate .
  15. Remove the inner panel reinforcement. Refer to Reinforcement Inner Panel Replacement - Endgate .
  16. Remove the endgate wedge. Refer to Wedge Replacement - Endgate - Endgate Side .
  17. Remove the rear wiper arm. Refer to Wiper Arm Replacement - Rear (TrailBlazer, Envoy) or Wiper Arm Replacement - Rear (XUV) in Wipers/Washer Systems.
  18. Remove the endgate window outer sealing strip. Refer to Sealing Strip Replacement - Endgate Window - Outer .
  19. Remove the endgate window reveal molding. Refer to Molding Window Reveal Replacement - Endgate in Exterior Trim.
  20. Remove the endgate window. Refer to Window Replacement - Endgate .
  21. Remove the endgate window regulator. Refer to Window Regulator Replacement - Endgate .
  22. Remove the endgate window run channels. Refer to Window Run Channels Replacement - Endgate Lower .
  23. Remove the endgate license plate pocket. Refer to License Plate Pocket Replacement (Envoy XUV)  or License Plate Pocket Replacement (All Except Envoy XUV) .
  24. Remove the left upper endgate latch. Refer to Latch Replacement - Endgate Left Upper .
  25. Remove the left lower endgate latch. Refer to Latch Replacement - Endgate Left Lower .
  26. Remove the rear wiper motor. Refer to Wiper Motor Replacement - Rear (TrailBlazer, Envoy) or Wiper Motor Replacement - Rear (XUV) in Wipers/Washer Systems.
  27. Remove the endgate harness. Refer to Wiring Harness Replacement - Endgate .

  29. Remove the lower hinge strap bolt (1) retaining the body side hinge to the endgate hinge.

  31. With an assistant holding the endgate, manually release the right hand upper latch (2), by sliding the release lever (1) using a flat-bladed tool.

  33. With an assistant, lift the endgate (2) off the integral locating pins (1) on the hinge.
  34. Place the endgate assembly on a clean protected surface.
  35. Remove the right side upper latch bracket assembly from the endgate. Refer to Latch Replacement - Endgate Right Upper .
  36. Remove the hinge from the endgate. Refer to Hinge Replacement - Endgate Lower - Endgate Side .
