Installation Procedure

    NOTE: Refer to Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Notice in Cautions and Notices.

  1. Apply GM Goodwrench Automatic Transmission Fluid DEXRON®-III, GM P/N 12378470, or the equivalent ATF, in order to lubricate a NEW O-ring (1) for the inlet port on the power steering gear.
  2. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  3. Install the power steering gear inlet pipe and the NEW O-ring to the steering gear.

    Tighten:  Tighten the flare nut to 36 N.m (27 lb ft).

  4. Apply GM Goodwrench Automatic Transmission Fluid DEXRON®-III, GM P/N 12378470, or the equivalent ATF, in order to lubricate a NEW O-ring (3) for the high pressure port on the pump.
  5. Install the gear inlet pipe and a NEW O-ring to the power steering pump.

    Tighten:  Tighten the flare nut to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).

  6. Install the bolt in order to retain the inlet pipe to the frame.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolt to 6.5 N.m (57.5 lb in).

  7. Install the 2 bolts in order to retain the inlet pipe to the engine bracket.

    Tighten:  Tighten the 2 bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  8. NOTE: Refer to Using Proper Power Steering Fluid Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  9. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  10. NOTE: Refer to Air in the Power Steering System Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  11. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Bleeding the Power Steering System .
  12. Install the engine protection shield. Refer to Engine Protection Shield Replacement .
