Installation Procedure

  1. Install the power steering gear (1) to the front suspension crossmember (2).
  2. Install the power steering gear mounting bolts (3). Hand tighten only.
  3. Raise the front suspension crossmember (2) into position on the vehicle.

    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  4. Install the front suspension crossmember mounting bolts.

    Tighten: 

    1. Tighten the left rear outboard bolt to 110 N.m (71 lb ft).
    2. Tighten the right rear outboard bolt to 110 N.m (71 lb ft).
    3. Tighten the rear inboard bolts to 110 N.m (71 lb ft).

  5. Tighten the power steering gear to crossmember bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 120 N.m (89 lb ft).

  6. Connect the intermediate shaft to the steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  7. Connect the tie rod ends to the steering knuckles. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement .
  8. Connect the power steering hoses to the power steering gear.

    Tighten:  Tighten the fittings to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).

  9. Install the tires and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Bleeding the Power Steering System .
  12. Align the front wheels. Refer to Measuring Wheel Alignment in Wheel Alignment.
