Removal Procedure

  1. Remove battery tray assembly assembly. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement in Engine Electrical.

  3. Disconnect the shift cable from the PNP switch.
  4. Remove the shift cable bracket.

  6. Remove the PNP switch lever nut and lever.

  8. Remove the PNP switch. Refer to Park/Neutral Position (PNP) Switch Replacement .
  9. Remove the transmission upper side cover bolts.
  10. Install the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture in Engine Mechanical.
  11. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  12. Remove the left front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  13. Remove the left lower control arm. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement in Front Suspension.
  14. Remove the wheel drive shaft from the transmission. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Wheel Drive Shafts.
  15. Disconnect the steering rack intermediate shaft. Refer to Power Steering Gear Replacement in Power Steering System.
  16. Remove the frame. Refer to Frame Replacement (W/LX9) in Frame and Underbody.
  17. On vehicles equipped with the L61 engine, remove the transmission mount. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement - Side .
  18. Lower the vehicle.
  19. Lower the LH side of the engine with the engine support fixture to allow the transmission side cover enough room to get past the left rail.
  20. Raise the vehicle.
  21. Remove the transmission side cover lower bolts.
  22. Remove the transmission side cover.
