Ignition Timing

  1. Set timing with engine at normal operating temperature and timing light connected to No. 1 cylinder wire. Leave vacuum hoses connected to distributor vacuum unit. Connect tachometer to connection stud above ignition control unit in engine compartment.
    CAUTION: Dangerously high voltage exists in ignition system. Ignition must be off when attaching or removing testing equipment, or severe shock may occur.
  2. Start engine and accelerate to 3000 RPM. Adjust timing as necessary by turning distributor. Tighten distributor and recheck timing. Timing should rear 20° BTDC at 3000 RPM.
