Adjusting Wheel Bearing Play
Bearing play is set correctly when the thrust washer can be moved slightly by applying finger pressure to a screwdriver. DO NOT rotate or pry the thrust washer outward. DO NOT leverage the screwdriver against the hub when checking.
- Remove the wheel. Pry out the hub cap.
- Loosen the fillister head clamping nut. Turn the wheel hub while tightening the clamping nut slightly.
- Unscrew clamping nut and adjust wheel bearing until the thrust washer is just movable by applying finger pressure to a screwdriver.
- When proper bearing play is reached, tighten the clamping nut. DO NOT turn the clamp while tightening it, this will throw off the adjustment. Recheck the adjustment once the clamp is tightened to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
