Anti-Lock Brake System
The Anti-Lock Brake system (ABS 5) uses one speed sensor at each wheel. A longitudinal (axial) acceleration sensor, located on center console, reports acceleration or deceleration to the ABS/All-Wheel Drive (AWD) control unit. ABS/AWD control unit is located on front right side of luggage compartment (trunk).
ABS 5 is a 3-channel system, hydraulic pressure is regulated individually to each front wheel and in tandem for the rear wheels. This system helps prevent wheel lock-up during heavy braking, thus providing the driver with better steering control of the vehicle. The system consists of a hydraulic brake booster, brake booster pump, ABS hydraulic control unit (on left side of trunk), 4 wheel speed sensors, 4 tooth rotors, ABS/AWD control unit, transverse (lateral) accelerator sensor, axial accelerator sensor, ABS warning light and 2 relays.
