Anti-Lock Brake System

As the driver applies pressure onto the brake pedal, a signal is sent to the ABS/AWD control unit, located on right front of luggage compartment. This signal activates the ABS/AWD control unit to start monitoring the rate of deceleration. If the rate of deceleration exceeds the preprogrammed amount, the ABS/AWD control unit will electronically activate solenoids located in the ABS hydraulic control unit. The solenoids decrease and increase the hydraulic pressure, to each front wheel or both rear wheels in tandem, to stop the vehicle in the shortest distance without wheel lock-up.

The transverse (lateral) accelerator sensor and longitudinal (axial) accelerator sensor, both located on the tunnel under the center console, signals the ABS/AWD control unit if extreme forward or side movement is detected. The ABS/AWD control unit uses this information to calculated proper hydraulic pressure to each wheel.
