CONCERN

Replacing Alarm / Drive Block Control Unit.

INFORMATION

If replacement of the alarm / drive block control unit becomes necessary, the new unit must be coded. It will be necessary to obtain the immobilizer (drive block) code and teaching code from Porsche Cars North America prior to installation of a new alarm / drive block control unit. Coding is performed using the Porsche System Tester 2. Proceed as follows:

  1. Obtain the immobilizer (drive block) code and the teaching code from PCNA. Complete the code request form (Technical Bulletin, Boxster bulletin group 9, number 9701) and fax to: (702) 348-3777.
  2. Original transponders can be transferred to replacement key heads and reused. However, all transponders will require recoding to the new control unit.
  3. It will be necessary to have replacement key heads with attached key tags on hand for coding to the control unit. With the next CD Rom update for the PST2 tester, it will be possible to reuse existing key heads.

PROCEDURE

REPLACING CONTROL UNIT

  1. Install alarm/drive block control unit.
  2. Connect the Porsche System Tester 2 and switch on.
  3. Select vehicle type "Boxster" and begin the control unit search sequence.
  4. Select "Alarm System".
  5. Select "Teaching Functions".
  6. Select "Immobilizer".
  7. Enter the 16 digit immobilizer code (obtained from PCNA).
  8. Press enter and confirm the correct code entry by pressing F7.
CAUTION: Be certain to enter the correct code. Once the control unit is coded, the code CANNOT be changed.

TRANSPONDER KEY PROGRAMMING

  1. From the Alarm System menu, select "Teaching Functions"
  2. Select "Transponder".
  3. Enter the 6 digit teaching code (obtained from PCNA) and press enter. Confirm by pressing F7.
  4. The tester screen will show the current transponder code (of the key in the ignition) and four free positions. After selecting the first free position, the transponder code can be entered by pressing F8. Repeat the procedure for the remaining keys by always selecting the next free position. Each key must be inserted into the ignition switch, turned to the "on" position, and steps 2 through 4 repeated.

REMOTE CONTROL PROGRAMMING

  1. From the Alarm System menu, select "Teaching Functions".
  2. Select "Remote Control".
  3. Enter the 6 digit teaching code (obtained from PCNA) and press enter. Confirm by pressing F7.
  4. The tester screen will show four free positions. After selecting the first free position, press F8. The 24 digit remote key number found only on the key tag must now be entered and selected. Confirm by pressing F7. Repeat step 4 for the remaining keys always selecting the next free position.
NOTE: Only the first eight digits of the remote key code are shown on the tester screen.
