Checking disc wheels

Checking the radial and lateral runout

The measuring points for radial and lateral runout on the inside of the wheel are given on the following drawing (dimension "a"). See Fig 1 .

Maximum permissible radial runout and lateral runout of the light alloy wheels = 0.7 mm

Maximum permissible radial runout and lateral runout of the wheel with tyre = 1.25 mm. Values less than 1.0 mm - better around 0.5 mm - are desirable. Also see General  .

Important: Straightening and welding work on light alloy wheels is not permissible.

Dimension "a" = 8 mm

NOTE:
  • Use a tyre measuring gauge - for example, V.A.G. 1435 - to measure wheels without tyres and wheels with tyres.
