Installing sensor module
- Tap out sealing ring on front output shaft on the transmission side with a screwdriver.
- Insert sensor module and secure it. Tightening torque 8 Nm (6 ft. lb.)
- Insert oil collection pan.
- Prepare electric plug connection for sensor module.
- Position transmission housing so that it is vertical on the mounting bracket.
- Shift gearshift lever as far as it will go in direction of travel.
- Clean sealing faces on transmission housing flange.
- Check that dowel sleeves -1, 2-
are fitted and coat differential housing flange with sealant.
- Check that magnet is fitted.
- Insert oil guide for front-wheel drive.
- Guide pin, M8 T10273
must be screwed into the threaded bore under the dowel sleeves.
- Suspend center transmission housing on the workshop crane WE 1188
and install it.
- 12.1. Retainer T10014 must be secured to the center transmission housing.
- 12.2. Secure VW771/40 from tool set Multi-purpose tool VW 771 to the center transmission housing.
- 12.3. Eye-head bolt 3368 must be secured to VW771/40.
- 12.4. Retainer T10014 and eye-head bolt 3368 must now be connected to the lifting tackle 2024A .
- 12.5. Lifting tackle 2024A must be connected to the workshop crane WE 1188 .
- 12.6. Raise center transmission housing and lower it into the transmission housing.
- Secure center transmission housing with new fastening screws. Initial tightening 8 Nm (6 ft. lb.) Final tightening +120°
- Turn connector housing using bit T40228
and engage it.
- Install new sealing ring for front output shaft. → 387055 REPLACING SEALING RING FOR FRONT OUTPUT SHAFT
- Fit spur gear -1-
and needle-roller bearing -2-
on the output shaft -3-
.
- Insert side shaft -2-
with a new fastening screw -1-
.
- Tighten new fastening screw -A- for side shaft -B- . Initial tightening 100 Nm (74 ft. lb.) Final tightening +120° +30°
- Install oil guide for drive shaft.
- Prepare sealing faces on transmission housing cover and transmission housing.
- 20.1. Clean sealing faces with a cleaning cloth and remove all old residual sealant using cleaning agent (00004321045).
- 20.2. Make sure that the sealing faces are free of dust and grease and that no more oil can run over them.
- Apply a bead of sealant -1-
evenly with a thickness of approx. 5 mm.
Avoid bore with thin wall thickness -2- on both sides .
- Position transmission housing cover -3-

- 22.1. Guide pins, M8 T10273 -1- must be screwed into the threaded bores shown.
- 22.2. Sleeve 9884 -2- must be fitted over the transmission shaft.
- 22.3. Fit transmission housing cover -3- on straight, making sure not to damage the sealing ring -4- .
- 22.4. Guide pins, M8 T10273 -1- must now be unscrewed.
- 22.5. Sleeve 9884 -2-
must be removed.
- Secure transmission housing cover.
