Programming Gateway Control Unit

NOTE: Voltage drop 
  • Risk of irreparable damage to control unit 
  • Risk of damage to control unit 
  • Fault entries in the control unit 
  • Coding in the control unit is aborted 
  • Malfunctions in control unit, even during programming 

    → Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

    → Ensure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming.

    → Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least 90 A to the vehicle battery.

Information 

The PIWIS Tester  instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester  .

  1. Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
  2. Select the vehicle type if necessary.
  3. In the Overview  , select the Gateway  control unit. Press F12 to continue. Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)? Press F11 to continue.
  4. Select Maintenance/repairs. 
  5. Select Control unit replacement  . Press F12 to continue.
  6. Read data  . Press F12 to continue and then press F8 to start.
  7. Switch off ignition. Replace control unit.

  8. Switch on ignition. In the Write data menu (procedure described above), press F12 and press F8 to start. The data that was read out is loaded.
    1. 8.1  The Tester displays the message: Data has been written. Press F12 to continue.
  9. Go back to the Overview  .
  10. In the Overview  , select the Gateway  control unit.
  11. Select Coding/programming. 
  12. Select Automatic programming. 
    1. 12.1  Tester displays: Programming performed successfully.
  13. Go back to the Overview  .
  14. In the overview  , press F7 to switch to the additional menu  .
  15. Select Commission component protection. 
    1. 15.1  Follow Tester instructions and notes.
    2. 15.2  Teach component protection according to menu guidance.
    3. 15.3  Tester displays: Component protection taught successfully.
  16. Read out all fault memories  . Clear it if necessary.
  17. End the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
